1- Observation
In the management science process is the identification of a problem that exists in the organizations. The system must be closely observed and continuously so that problem can be identified as soon as possible.
Problem are not always the result of a crisis that must be reacted to but, instead involve an anticipatory or planning situation.
The manager is the person who identifies a problems, because they works in the vicinity of places where problem might occur.
Problem can often be identified by a management scientist [ a person skilled in the techniques of management science to identify problems] Who has been to solve problems using management science techniques.
2-The Problem Mean
The problem must be clearly and concisely defined. Therefore, the limits of the problem and the degree to which it pervades other units of the organization must be included in the problem definition. A stated objective helps to focus attentions on the problem, so the objectives of the organizations must also be clearly defined.
3-Construction
The mostly frequently a management science model consists of the set of mathematical relationships. A management science is an abstract representation of an existing problem situation. The mathematical relationships are made of numbers and symbols.
As an example consider a business firm that sell a product. The product cost $10 to produce and sells for $50. A model that computes that total profit that will accrue from the item sold is.
Z= $50x-10x . in this equation x represents the number of units of the product that a sold, and Z represents the total profit that result from the sale of the product
The term variable(x and Z) is used because no set numerical value has been specified for in this items.
The number of units sold x and the profit Z , can be any amount , they can vary. Z is a dependent variable, because its value is dependent on the number of units sold. X is an independent variable because the number of units sold is not dependent on anything else.
